ABSTRACT

The amount of research that has been done on shrinkage estimators in general and the James-Stein and ridge regression estimator in particular during the last thirty years cannot be summarized in a single volume. A great deal of work remains to be done. The topics that were presented in this volume were chosen because of their importance to the specialized area of this book and to statistics in general. Of course the contents of any book are dictated by the interests and prejudices of the author and what he/she feels comfortable writing about. In this regard this book is no exception.
