ABSTRACT

Runout, like profile, is two distinctly different controls. Circular runout is a two dimensional control of circular elements of a surface. It detects the composite variations of the feature's roundness and coaxiality. A datum, compound datums, or primary and secondary datums are options available to establish and orient the required datum axis. A breakdown of the components of circular runout allows individual deviations of surface circularity radially of whatever runout tolerance appears in the feature control frame. The runout tolerance is not dependent on the produced part size for either circular or total runout; therefore, no material condition symbols are needed, nor appropriate. The tolerance of runout is always regardless of the feature's size. Total runout is a composite control of surface elements. It is a three dimensional control of roundness (circularity), straightness, angularity, taper, coaxiality and profile of a surface.
