ABSTRACT

The introduction of a mammalian gene into a recombinant structure and its reintroduction into mammalian cells requires the use of a viral vector. Most such vectors are derived from the simian virus 40 (SV40), which was discussed in Chapter 7 in connection with the construction of an SV40-λ DNA hybrid (Chap. 7, Fig. 11). The search for and construction of new vectors was described by Mulligan and Berg (1). Several recombinant plasmid vectors are shown there, based on pBR322 and SV40 sequences.
