ABSTRACT

As stated in earlier chapters, the activities expected and actually accomplished are numerous and exciting. The almost feverish preoccupation in utilizing the recombinant technique accelerated in the late 1970s, reached a peak in early 1980, and then settled down to a more realistic and steady pace. The inherently difficult character of the procedures required some backtracking and in-depth investigation. At present research and applications development are well organized and progress is steady and productive.
