ABSTRACT

Total productive maintenance (TPM) teams should learn the basics about all their equipment subsystems, example fastener, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and drive systems. In that way they can recognize and actively prevent more problems. Eliminating breakdowns requires the help of everyone in the plant. TPM teams need to analyse the breakdowns that occur from day to day, pin down the exact cause of each one, and determine how to adjust routine maintenance activities so causes are detected and treated. In real life, however, breakdowns are usually analysed in an aimless and haphazard way. Operators need to understand how their equipment works and know their roles as makers of products before they can recognize or understand equipment abnormalities. The team had learned a lot from the breakdown of the limit switch, so they not only checked the actual pump according to the breakdown checklist, but also took the pump apart and inspected the strainer inside it.
