ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an explicit formulation of gear meshing teeth for the dynamic stress and deformation analysis. With increased demand for high-speed machinery, mathematical modeling for dynamic analysis of gears has become a topic of great interest. Models for gear dynamics include the effects of vibration of other elements such as shafts and gear bearings, as well as tooth compliance in the study of gear trains or transmission systems. The external force is time variant in the acting position, direction, and magnitude. In order to seek solution to the governing equation of the tooth, we need to find an expression for the external force. Two computer algorithms for the gear mesh dynamic analysis based on the theory are presented: one uses a finite difference method and the other is based on the order reduction method. The effect of the frictional force is also discussed.
