ABSTRACT
The range of applications of high-pressure jets in the mining industry may either be extensively utilized as cutting tools or may assist the mechanical tools, reducing their temperature and thus prolonging their service life; they may be also used for dust suppression. The process efficiency and cutting quality depend on interrelations between abrasive particles, the material to be cut and the jet stream parameters, including pressure, nozzle diameter, proportion of abrasive particles, jet stream geometry. Nozzles used for generation of high-pressure jets may differ in design while their geometry is determined by jet type and applications. High-pressure jets became very popular in the 1980s. In Europe in 1991, they were applied as cutting tools in textile industry, food processing sector, in motor industry, metal production and in civil engineering. Most diverse conditions of high-pressure jets applications and their efficiency gave rise to extensive studies on their possible applications in heavy industry, i.e. in the mining sector.
