ABSTRACT

Raw data are data generated by analytical performances, including quality control checks. Reportable data or reportable results are generated from raw data by mathematical or statistical calculations. Raw data produced by analytical performances should be converted to reportable, final results in the appropriate unit. By using the proper formula, the analyst calculates the final values and registers them on the laboratory "result" sheet or enters them into the laboratory computer system, to be ready for further supervision and checks. The number of significant figures refers to the number of digits reported for the value of a measured or calculated quantity indicating the accuracy and precision of the value. The general rule is to report only such figures that are justified by the accuracy of the method. The number of significant figures is said to be the number of digits remaining when the data are rounded.
