ABSTRACT

Project management must be sure to provide project team members with extensive training on the products used in the architecture as early as possible in the project timeframe. The key to successful management control of systems development lies in the often-observed management cycle of planning, executing, and evaluating the results of the work and revising the plan based on these results. Regardless of the methodology to be used, netcentric system development requires an organization to plan its systems, just as in traditional systems development. The organization must design its systems, code and test its systems, and support its systems. The chapter provides an overview of the major new and changed development activities in a client/server or netcentric development environment. The development activities include the following: user involvement, graphical user interface development, prototyping, data architecture selection, application architecture, networking, standards testing, rollout, and operations support.
