ABSTRACT

It is best to think of indefinite integration as the reverse procedure to that of differentiation. This chapter helps the reader to write down indefinite integrals of simple functions and apply the four basic rules of integration correctly. It assists in performing simple substitutions to determine integrals and obtaining integrals by putting simple rational functions into partial fractions. If we have an integrand which is the product of two different types of function, for example exponential × circular, polynomial × exponential, or polynomial × circular, then the formula for integration by parts can often resolve it. The chapter also looks at practical problems in gas compression and structural stress.
