ABSTRACT

Graffiti is a plural word for drawings, patterns, scribbles or messages painted, written or carved on walls and other surfaces. The singular form of the word is ‘graffito’ from the Italian ‘graffio’ — a scratch — but most graffiti take the form of surface scribbles and designs. In this book, we use the word ‘graffitist’ to describe the people who produce graffiti.
