ABSTRACT

Global stability and prosperity are critically dependent upon the availability of secure, reliable and affordable energy supplies. Though coal deposits occur in many parts of the world, their use for energy generation has serious environmental and climate change impacts. Oil use is much less polluting, but oil and natural gas resources are concentrated in a small number of countries. For these reasons, reduction in the use of fossil fuels is the key energy policy target of many countries. Besides this, about 69% of all CO2 emissions are related to energy supply – the greater the CO2 emissions, the greater the climate change (as manifested by global warming and sea level rise, etc.).
