ABSTRACT
Maintenance dredging is the activity of keeping existing waterways, harbour basins and other such waterways at the required nautical and/or hydraulic depth by removing recently deposited (up to several years) sediment. The environmental effects of such an operation are usually minimal and limited to the effects of the dredging and placement operations. Environmental issues increase in importance when the material is contaminated.
