ABSTRACT
Dry matter and plant nutrient accumulation curves for forage grasses generally exhibit sigmoid shape with time. Growth rate is slow in the beginning as the plant develops, followed by a rapid phase, ending with decreasing rate as the plant matures. The middle phase often exhibits somewhat linear behavior. In this chapter we discuss several model attempts to capture the essential form of the growth response curves, culminating in the expanded growth model.
