ABSTRACT

The methodology described in Chapter 4 yields a design layout that gives geometric definition to the product and incorporates knowledge gained from testing physical prototypes. In a limited sense, the end product (the system’s architecture and the components that make up the assembly) is sufficiently defined to allow copies of the product to be fabricated. This cannot, or should not, be deemed a production release since no effort has been in expended in designing tooling or gaging. Both the design of the product and the production process must be completed to bring the product development cycle to a successful conclusion.
