ABSTRACT
Carbohydrates are naturally occurring organic substances that contain mainly carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen. Some carbohydrates also contain additional elements such as nitrogen (glucosamines) or phosphorus (sugar phosphates). Carbohydrates are all relatively similar in chemical structure, are very polar, and show relatively high solubility in water and other polar solvents.
