Because we have defined image quality in terms of a calibrated mathematical scale with associated physical standards, it is possible to verify the accuracy of modeling predictions by comparing them to independent assessments made against the physical standards. A particularly inclusive and rigorous test of modeling accuracy might have the following characteristics.
