ABSTRACT
Pattern and image recognition techniques have been widely used in military, scientific research, and business areas to process images and patterns. Their applications include the processing of satellite images, object recognition, and identification of fingerprints and retinas. An image or a pattern can be recognized using prior knowledge or the statistical information extracted from the image or the pattern. There are many ways of solving pattern recognition problems. Among the commonly used approaches discussed in this chapter are the correlation approaches [1-7], Bayesian receiver [8,9] and artificial neural networks [10].
