ABSTRACT
Since the late 1990s a very rapid diffusion of transgenic plants has occurred throughout much of North America. Farmer acceptance of these crops has been phenomenal. Given today’s agricultural economy, farmers are looking for any competitive edge they can get. The early products of biotechnology offer that edge to many farms. Transgenic plants will continue to be developed and grown in the future-provided that a number of social and political constraints can be overcome.
