ABSTRACT

The development of a variety of horticultural practices and the application of plant breeding techniques over the last several millennia have resulted in the domestication and production of a wide range of valuable tree fruit and nut crop species. This has created opportunities for nurseries and growers and a demand for their products by consumers. Interest in fruit and nut crops has been heightened in recent times by a variety of findings that link various macro-and micronutrients with beneficial effects on human health. There now seems to be good evidence for the old adage, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”
