ABSTRACT

Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) is an important staple food for about 500 million people in arid and semiarid regions of the world. It is the fifth important cereal crop in world production, following wheat, rice, maize, and barley. Sorghum bicolor, which belongs to the Gramineae family, originated in Africa and spread to the continents of Australia, America, and Asia. According to Doggett (1), this cultivated crop was domesticated in Africa, and the greatest variability of wild species occurred in the Ethiopia-Sudan region of East Africa.
