ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of ceramic fabrication technology in three ways. The first is by addressing three factors that can have significant impact across several fabrication technologies, namely anion/gaseous impurities, heating methods (e.g., use of microwave and other newer methods), and fabrication of ceramic composites. Next, three manufacturing factors are addressed, namely surface finishing, inspection and nondestructive evaluation (NDE), and joining/attachment. Finally, a summary comparison of ceramic fabrication technologies used on a substantial scale is given along with some observations on manufacturing control.
