Thin-Film Transistors—A Historical Perspective

Thin-fi lm transistors (TFTs) have in the past 10 years become the “rice” of the electronic fl at panel industry, just as silicon chips were earlier called the “rice,” or staple, of the electronic computer revolution. Tens of giant factories today turn out millions of displays each per year, with each display incorporating several million thin-fi lm transistors.
