ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the structure of the system from the global perspective and defines the individual relationships of each segment, including input and output requirements.

I. CHAPTER OBJECTIVES

• To provide a global picture of how the system is to be structured • To define the input and output relationships

II. THE THEORY OF CONSTRAINTS-BASED SYSTEM

Figure 1 is a diagram of the theory of constraints-based system designed to implement the five steps of improvement. Notice that the master schedule still drives the input to the system. It is a logical place from which to combine forecast and sales order data, show available to promise (ATP) for future sales requirements, and relate the status of orders.
