Possible Amplification of Tsunami Through Coupling with Internal Waves

The tsunami of 26 December 2004 in the Indian Ocean has been analyzed and studied in detail by several authors (Kowalik et al., 2005a, b; Murty et al., 2005a-e; Murty et al., 2006; Nirupama et al., 2005a-b). About a dozen different physical oceanographic processes need to be invoked to explain the detailed physical characteristics of this tsunami.
