ABSTRACT

Recently, Kowalik et al. (2005a, b) applied a global tsunami model (GTM) to the Indian, Atlantic, and Pacific oceans. The model domain covered the entire World Ocean extending from 80◦S to 69◦N. The model spatial resolution was 1 min and its domain included approximately 200 million grid points. In order to carry out this simulation, a parallel version of the model code was developed and run on a supercomputer. The 1 min spatial resolution (Kowalik et al., 2005a, b) produced very small numerical dispersion even when tsunamis traveled large distances.
