ABSTRACT

Raison d’ etre: This part gives an account of the different dimensions of the tsunami damage. In the case of Indonesia and Thailand, an assessment is made of damage to engineering structures. In the case of India, the variation in the severity of damage at various sites is shown to be determined by the geophysical, ecological, and socio-economic ambiences at these sites. The relative information is made use of to figure out strategies for minimizing the vulnerability of structures and sites to tsunami damage.
