ABSTRACT

The nervous system is the body’s information gatherer, storage center and control system. Its overall function is to collect information, to analyze this information, and facilitate communication between different cells of the body to initiate appropriate responses to this information. The neuron is the functional unit of the nervous system and it is estimated that the brain contains 100 billion neurons. The cerebral cortex is the executive suite of the nervous system and it enables to communicate, perceive, and produce voluntary movement. The central nervous system has ascending sensory pathways and descending motor pathways in the control tower of the human system. It both receives and carries information, which is vital to our ability to move and survive. It is responsible for overseeing and monitoring the activation of all sectors of the human body. Most humans are capable of producing movements that are unique, diverse and extremely complex.
