ABSTRACT
The topography of a river bed can be determined by sounding from the water surface, i.e. by measuring the depth of water at a sufficient number of points.
If the sounding operations are intended to form part of a river survey, determination of the exact location X, Y of each sounding is essential and sounding levels must be correlated with one another or with a known datum level Z.
