ABSTRACT
The objective of this chapter is threefold. First, we focus on obtaining a basic knowledge of the structure and components associated with wireless networking. Second, we use that information to become acquainted with the rationale for considering the use of wireless LANs in a home or office environment. In doing so we examine the advantages and disadvantages associated with the use of wireless LAN technology to ensure we obtain balanced information concerning the use of this rapidly evolving technology. Included in our review of wireless technology is an examination of a number of applications that can benefit from the use of wireless LANs.
