ABSTRACT

Starting a major cloud project often means getting a fairly good size initial dataset into the cloud. Brian is a big fan of password vaults, and he uses the Splash ID system, wherein an encrypted database is stored in the cloud and allows for synchronization across multiple devices. The features information technology (IT) professionals need to look for are that the database NOT be readable by anything other than the app, that it be strongly encrypted, and if someone blows the access password enough times, the system will scrub the database off the storage medium. A fairly extreme solution was used by a convention center Internet service provider that leveraged the amazingly rich scripting capability of the FreeRADIUS authentication system. Protecting IT professionals' content needs to be designed into any system. Who, What, Where, When, and How should always be considered in any system, and especially when it comes to protecting the keys to the kingdom.
