ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the forensic investigation aspects of the dark web and methods designed to beat them. The difficulty in carrying out forensics on the dark web is that there is a challenge in both finding the users and tracking their activities on dark nets. On the dark web, cryptocurrencies are the only acceptable payment options in many illegal black markets. The most important aspect of forensics is the collection of evidence. This evidence could lead to the successful prosecution of a cybercriminal, child porn peddler, terrorist, or scammer hiding in the deep web. Evidence Assessment is important for any forensic investigation process to assess the potential evidence to be collected beforehand. Digital forensic investigations can be hampered by some techniques designed to make it significantly harder to investigate certain files and programs. The Forensic toolkit is software made by AccessData specifically for doing digital forensics.
