ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the commonly employed entropy assisted thresholding procedures with appropriate examples. The entropy-assisted threshold is executed separately for the greyscale and RGB scale medical pictures and the attained outcome is assessed using appropriate techniques. In therapeutic field, images recorded using a chosen modality with a preferred pixel level can be considered to express important information. In the histogram-based method, the difficulty of the thresholding augments due to the size of the picture, pixel distribution, and multiple pixel class. The main role of the entropy technique is to enhance the ROI when an appropriate image pre-processing is executed. Commonly, the multi-level thresholding procedures are executed to enhance the test image using an entropy and non-entropy-based methods and the literature confirms that the outcome attained with the entropy-based technique is superior compared to the alternative. In the literature, entropy-based thresholding methodologies are widely executed to identify a class of disease with a developed computerised system.
