ABSTRACT

Where access to a larger area of work is required, or where heavier items must be moved within an isolator, the half-suit is used. As the name suggests, it is a sealed suit, complete with its own air supply for the operator, but one that covers the user only from the waist upward. It is mounted on an oval flange in the isolator base tray, often on an angled plinth to aid entry and exit. Thus, the user can work inside the isolator, much as if working at a conventional laboratory bench, but still be physically separated from the contents of the isolator. The maximum reach when working in a half-suit is around 1200 mm, with a weight limit of about 15 kg.
