ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with housekeeping in isolators — the regular physical actions required to maintain the internal environment of the isolator between batches of work. Where the process being carried out in the isolator is aseptic, then clearly the isolator must be sterilised before use; where the process is toxic, the isolator must be decontaminated before it can be opened for maintenance. Whatever the process, some form of general cleaning will probably be needed to prevent the buildup of contamination or product within the isolator.
