ABSTRACT
The liver biotransforms toxic substances, secretes bile, synthesizes plasma proteins and clotting factors along with lipids and ketones, stores vitamins and glycogen and is a site of hemopoiesis in the fetus. Bile is stored in the gallbladder, a sac located between the lobes of the liver. The gallbladder is absent in horses.
