ABSTRACT
Retrospective studies examine a research question by look backwards in time. In case-control studies – a type of retrospective study – subjects confirmed with a disease (cases) are compared with non-diseased subjects (control subjects) regarding past exposure to a putative risk factor (variable). Therefore, both groups are compared for possible past exposure to a risk factor (Figure 6.1).
