ABSTRACT

The nature of these displays and tables, and their interpretation, is illustrated in this chapter on the data from the experiment. Scatter plot matrices show the characteristic behaviour of good graphical display — they are useful for multiple purposes. One use, of course, is help in the detection of unusual values. The attributes have to be put in some order, but it doesn’t seem to be a particularly important choice. In this exhibit, a greedy close ordering of the attributes has been used, i.e. those attributes more similar to each other are closer together. Oil % and protein % are negatively correlated and when one is measured, most of the information on the other is obtained. However, oil % is generally considered to be the more important. As the breeder often wants a genotype which has a higher quality index oil % and protein % patterns should be studied together.
