ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses plane strain, and begins by a brief discussion on notation and prerequisites. Then, the Betti and Somigliana formulae are presented. Uniqueness theorems form an important step in the solution of the boundary value problem. The chapter shows how elastic potentials are constructed by means of the matrices. The chapter examines the properties of the boundary operators, and presents the classical indirect method in which the interior and exterior Dirichlet and Neumann problems are examined. The alternative indirect method, the modified indirect method, the refined indirect method, the direct method, and the substitute direct method are also presented.
