ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to introduce Object Linking and Embedding and its uses. It shows the use of Portable Document Format (PDF) files, Data Exchange Format (DXF) files, raster files, and Xrefs. The PDF format is widely used for sharing information online. The command for exporting drawings to PDF is found on the File/Export tab. AutoCAD vector elements as lines, arcs or text are translated to pixel information. In the Save as PDF dialog is a choice between different PDF Presets and Options for this translation. A higher vector quality will result in a bigger size of the PDF file. The *.DXF format was originated by Autodesk (publishers of AutoCAD), but is now in general use in most CAD (computer-aided design) software. A variety of raster files can be placed into AutoCAD 2020 drawings from the Select Image File dialog brought to screen by typing IMAGEATTACH at the command prompt.
