ABSTRACT

Developing healthy routines of self care and coping with personal and professional challenges is key to building resiliency and creating a life that supports flourishing. There are larger, systemic issues that are outside of one’s control, but there are many ways to individually fortify and empower oneself to skillfully navigate these concerns and preserve holistic health. In this tool-box building chapter, the ethical duty of the caregiver to create an individualized self-care routine is supported by providing a wide variety of practices to consider. It starts with self-compassion, acceptance of innate worth, and intentionally developing a mindset of optimism and gratitude. Healthy boundaries, sleep hygiene, stress management techniques, and mindfulness practices are discussed as important components to supporting all realms of one’s well-being.
