ABSTRACT

Health, safety and the environment are controlled by a number of Acts of Parliament and subsequent regulations and statutory instruments in a bicycle industry. These may have regional variations, or specifics relating to the bicycle and related associated industries. These are also impacted by other laws, for instance, those relating to the countryside. Bicycle technicians are constantly handling substances which are harmful to health. The harmful effect of liquids, chemicals and materials on the hands can be prevented, in many cases, by wearing the correct type of gloves. This chapter lists the typical items of personal protective equipment and states when they must be worn. By law, all companies are required to maintain records of accidents which take place at work. These records are usually kept in an accident book. Accident books may be inspected by health and safety executive inspectors they must be kept for a period of at least three years from the date of the last entry.
