ABSTRACT

Commonly used winding types, such as layer, multi-start, helical and disc windings, are discussed on their pros and cons, as well as their applications. To reduce eddy current loss in windings, the wires or cables have to be transposed; the types and application aspects of the transpositions are given. Half turn, which is used to bring leads to different sides of the core and is normally used in autotransformers, is investigated on its effect on electrical turns. Axial split winding arrangement is an effective economic design, and the causes of circulating current in such winding arrangement are studied and preventive methods are offered. Finally, cables and wires used to make windings are described.
