ABSTRACT

A wide variety of pathologies or neoplasm occur in the base of cranium and deep spaces of the neck. The management of such pathologies poses a great surgical challenge relating to the anatomical complexity, difficulty in accessibility and proximity of vital structures. A multidisciplinary team approach is most necessary in these situations to strike a balance between complete or near total removal of the lesions and preventing damage to vital anatomic structures. In these clinical situations, access osteotomies of the facial skeleton can be performed to provide better exposure access. This chapter highlights all the important access osteotomies used to resect the deep lesions that are not readily approached by a straight line and hidden lesion neck.
