ABSTRACT

The same strategies and tactics used to sell a product or service can be used to sell safety to a front-line employee. Selling safety starts with knowing a little about being a good leader. Talk with colleagues, benchmark with other organizations and safety professionals and achieve certifications. Successful leaders are also successful influencers. Genuine people are open-minded, which makes them approachable and interesting to others. It is difficult to have a conversation with someone who has already formed an opinion and is not willing to listen. A command and control leadership style in emergency situations is appropriate, even recommended. As an everyday management approach, not so much.
