Engineers and the products that they design and support are to make a profit for the organization that they belong to. Should cost is a powerful tool that enginers, managers, product owners and sales teams can use to analyze what it costs to make a product or gadget. This chapter walks the engineer through the process on how to perform and utilize a should cost estimation. Engineers are expected to be able to drive efficiency and control cost within an organization. The ability to understand what it costs to produce a product allows the engineer to control product cost and look for ways to improve the cost equation.
