ABSTRACT

The normal curvature of the cheek teeth crowns causes divergence from those of the opposing arcade as they elongate, reducing occlusal contact to only the buccal margins of the lower and lingual margins of the upper teeth. Consequently, uneven wear leads to the formation of sharp spurs on the opposite margins of the teeth, while the realignment of occlusal forces in a more lateral direction exacerbates the divergence and malocclusion as the tooth grows (acquired molariform malocclusion). Congenital molariform malocclusion is rare.
