ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses aspects of staffing projects, teams and distributing assignments to members of the project team. Compatibility is often overlooked. People working in a team must be compatible and able to get along with each other. The people issues pertaining to project staffing discussed in the section are: availability; competencies and skills; compatibility; permanent or temporary; costs; and teams. The project managers use the work packages to develop the staffing profile which defines skill levels, skill types and competencies by position description. If the staffing need is to add people to an existing team, managers using the systems approach allow the members of the team who will be working with the new employee to interview the candidates and make their recommendations as to the suitability of the candidate for joining the team.
