The clinical success of nutraceutical products coupled with increasing health consciousness results in the rapid global growth of the nutraceuticals and functional food industry. Nutraceutical is the hybrid of ‘nutrition’ and ‘pharmaceutical.’ Nutraceuticals are found in a mixture of products emerging from the food industry, the herbal and dietary complement market, pharmaceutical industry, and the newly merged pharmaceutical or agribusiness or nutrition conglomerates. Nutraceuticals enclose most of the therapeutic areas such as antiarthritic, cold and cough, sleeping disorders, digestion and preclusion of certain cancers, osteoporosis, blood pressure, cholesterol control, pain killers, depression and diabetes. Nutraceuticals can be organized in several ways depending upon its easier understanding and application for academic instruction, clinical trial design, functional food development or dietary recommendations. Cancer is a principal cause of death worldwide, and it is mostly communicated through unhealthy food habits and lifestyle. Due to the inception of nutraceutical concept and increasing health consciousness, the requirement of nutraceutical and functional food is increased.
