ABSTRACT

The chapter aims to give industrial hygiene and safety (IH/S) managers some valuable tips to enhance their persuasive and objective writing to be more of a positive influence on sound policy development in IH/S managers organization. Many IH/S practitioners conduct safety inspections or workplace assessments. In any IH/S assessment, there are two main goals: identify problems discovered or encountered during the assessment; and prove to management or the client that the problems exist and are worthy of devoting time and money to correct them. A rule statement in issue, rule, analysis, conclusion is the actual requirement given set of facts, and should include the relevant exceptions that apply. Rule statements should be concise, but do not be afraid to add supporting information where needed. Issue statements can be written in question format or in statement format beginning with the word "whether." If the rule comes from an organizational manual or policy document, simply cite the section number for the source.
